Chakotay is the first officer of the USS Voyager. He is a skilled and experianced pilot, trained by Starfleet, although he resigned to join up with the Maquis rebels, where he bevame an accomplished leader in the fight against the Federation and the Cardassians. After joining Janeway on Voyager in the Delta Quadrant, Chakotay continues treat his new captain with deep respect, while feeling free to question her commands when warranted.
